Those using car hire from Edinburgh airport can enjoy a beast of a trip if they visit the village of Drumnadrochit for the Highland Games.

All through summer there are Highland Games going on across Scotland, but the games of the Glenurquhart Highland Gathering on Saturday August 28th take place overlooking Loch Ness.

Starting at 10:30 BST, the day will include traditional sports like caber tossing, hill running and a tug-of-war, as well as Highland dancing and a piping competition.

Entry to the venue at Blairbeg Park is £5 for adults and £2 for juniors.

As well as enjoying all the tartan pageantry, visitors can take the chance to see exhibitions in the village dedicated to the mystery of the Loch Ness Monster, as well as visiting Urquhart Castle and taking a boat trip onto the famous lake itself.

To get to Drumnadrochit from Edinburgh Airport, take the A90 to Queensferry and then the M90 to Perth, before leaving at Junction 10 and continuing northwards up the A9 through the Highlands via Pitlochry and Aviemore to Inverness.

From Inverness, take the A82 heading towards Fort William, which will come alongside the shore of Loch Ness before you reach Drumnadrochit.
