Take in poetry along the Pennine Way
Those looking to sample the delights of poetry this summer may be wise to opt for Manchester Airport car hire and head to Northumberland National Park.
The region is hosting a selection of readings by noted poet, author and playwright Simon Armitage from July 8th to 13th as he treks the 264 miles of the Pennine Way, before writing a book about his experiences.
Beginning in Kirk Yetholm and ending in the picturesque Forest-in-Teesdale, the walk will see Armitage read his works at each stop along the way to members of the public.
Those in attendance will also have the opportunity to ask the poet questions about his career and even have their books signed.
Mel Whewell, speaking on behalf of the North Pennines AONB Partnership, said: "We are delighted to welcome Simon Armitage to the area and wish him an enjoyable and successful journey."
Holidaymakers can get to the Northumberland National Park from Manchester Airport using car hire via the A1(M) – the journey is around three hours and 45 minutes long.
