Southampton the friendliest place for car hire customers?

Car hire customers who are looking for somewhere nice to stay may be interested to know that Southampton has been voted the friendliest place in the UK.

The research was carried out by Jurys Inn and has been released to mark the start of British Tourism Week.

Shop staff in the south-coast city are the most helpful and welcoming, according to the poll, while more residents than in any other area think that manners are important.

It also found that Norwich was voted into second place, while Exeter came third – with fewer than one in five likely to barge past other shoppers.

Fourth and fifth were filled by Brighton and Portsmouth respectively. London was voted the most unwelcoming place in the UK.

It was recently announced that a new campaign has been launched – British Tourism Benefits Everyone, Everywhere, Every day – to coincide with the discovery that an increasing amount of tourism in Britain is domestic.
