South-east ‘is accessible’

London car hire customers travelling to the south-east of England could benefit from efforts to make the region more accessible.

Tourism South East emphasised some of the changes it is making ahead of the 2012 Paralympic Games, which could help visitors with disabled passengers and family members.

Seaside resort Brighton was highlighted as a leader in accessibility, having been the first city to take part in the Audit Access sheme.

Winchester, Maidenhead and parts of Buckinghamshire have all used Brighton as a model for their own efforts.

And the organisation noted that tourists with impaired mobility, eyesight or hearing – as well as those with special needs – can take advantage of a range of suitable accommodation options.

Bournemouth was recently recommended by Peter Hampson of the British Resorts & Destinations Association, with good restaurants and entertainment combining with seven miles of beaches to make it an attractive option for car hire customers and other travellers.
