People taking advantage of Heathrow car rental might enjoy driving to Longleat Estate in Wiltshire, near Warminster.

The site was recently recommended by Bergit Arends, curator of contemporary art at the Natural History Museum, who wrote in a piece for the Independent it is one of the best areas of woodland in Britain

Longleat is home to 200 oak trees, which were planted in January 2009 as a monument to Charles Darwin.

"Oak trees are amazing ecosystems and also help us to lock up carbon from the atmosphere," the specialist explained.

According to the estate's website, Longleat is regarded as one of the most impressive examples of Elizabethan architecture in the UK and "one of the most beautiful stately homes open to the public".

It can be reached from Heathrow Airport in approximately an hour and a half, if people drive along the M25, before exiting at Junction 12 onto the M3, heading towards Southampton.
