Scenic walks promoted by Lake District

Families looking for a scenic place to visit for long walks might want to head to the Lake District.

Tourism officials are promoting three of the most spectacular routes in the national park through a series of new leaflets produced by Bassenthwaite Reflections, which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The walks included in this literature include those from Dunmail Raise to Derwentwater, from Honister Pass to Keswick and from Threlkeld to Keswick.

Visitors can take in a wealth of landmarks, wildlife and history along these routes, all of which is detailed in the pamphlets.

"There’s a lot of detail taking in famous Lakeland characters – including Beatrix Potter – our precious red squirrels and well-known sights," explained Karin Crofts of Bassenthwaite Reflections.

Walkers will also be able to download the mapped routes and related podcasts from the Bassenthwaite Reflections website to download onto their GPS systems, smartphones and mp3 players in the near future.

If you’re using Manchester Airport car hire to get to the Lake District, your journey will take around 1.5 hours.

The main way to get there is via the M6 – which runs to the east of the national park – and taking either junction 36 and the A590 for the southern Lake District or junction 40 and A66 or A592 to head further north.
