Holidaymakers choosing Heathrow car rental could find that the UK’s roads become safer as a result of a new initiative.

Brake is running a scheme that allows driving instructors to receive materials to pass on to young people, educating them about responsible motoring and the dangers of the highways.

The road safety charity’s resources include a leaflet relating to drink and drug driving as well as a tyre tread indicator.

Marketing manager Caroline Perry explained that some new motorists can fail to recognise the potential for crashing, adding: "Driving instructors have a vital role to play by educating young people about driving responsibly, helping to change young people’s attitudes and saving lives in the process."

Meanwhile, car hire customers on family holidays may wish to consider letting mums get behind the wheel, as GEM Motoring recently found 83 per cent of kids aged five to 16 think their fathers are impatient and drive too fast.
