More people to stay in UK and hire a car?
More people may be choosing to hire a car and stay in the UK for their holiday, it has been announced.
Ian Bradley, Association of Independent Tour Operators, noted that had been a 2.2 per cent increase in domestic over-night stays.
He also observed that more people are "taking that second holiday in the UK rather than going overseas".
The tourism industry needs to be continually innovating to stay ahead of the rest of Europe, Mr Bradley remarked, encouraging organisations to concentrate on the unique set of destinations there are in Britain.
On the topic of London he said: "You can get good value at hotel rooms, eat cheaply [and] see a lot of sites for free like the museums."
According to a report published February 18th by VisitBritain, the weak pound is a key influence on travel in 2009 and has resulted in a dramatic 25 per cent improvement in the tourism balance of the payments deficit.
