Low-carbon vehicles car hire customers?

Car hire customers may soon be using renewable fuel to power their vehicles.

This is because the Department of Transport has unveiled a new scheme that will see £3.5 million invested in biogas – a sustainable energy source produced from waste material – in the hope that it will lower emissions.

Transport secretary Andrew Adonis wants the country to take advantage of the opportunity it has to be a leader in this technology.

He added: "We are on the right track to delivering a greener and cleaner industry that meets the needs of society as a whole whilst addressing the … challenges we face."

Further funding has also been given to the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Grant programme, a development that supports the installation of refilling and recharging stations.

The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association recently noted that it would like to see more electric automobiles on the road.
