Gatwick Airport’s new owner has pledged to improve passenger services, making it easier for people to travel.

Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) will concentrate on security, check-in and investment to enrich the customer’s flying experience.

The company aims to modernise the airport in the most cost effective way, while improving efficiency and competing with other London airports.

As part of the changes, it is bringing in a new team to oversee the overhaul.

Sir David Rowlands, chairman of the board at Gatwick, said that he hopes the facility will become the "airport of choice" for passengers in the south-east.

He added: "It will take some time for our changes to take effect, but within months passengers will begin to feel that their journey through Gatwick is getting easier."

The changes come as more people are starting to use Gatwick. October showed an increase of 1.8 per cent in passenger numbers compared with the same time last year. European scheduled traffic also went up by 9.3 per cent.
