Hire cars may benefit from electric vehicle plans
Car hire customers concerned about the environment will soon be able to take electric vehicles to Milton Keynes.
The borough has signed an agreement with the Renault-Nissan Alliance that will lead to the development of a network of recharging points, while more such cars will be made available.
Charging and parking at the 430 posts planned by Milton Keynes Council will be free and chief executive of the local authority David Hill welcomed the move.
"We have always been a pioneer for green technologies and initiatives and this agreement is yet another positive step for Milton Keynes as a showcase low-carbon city," he said.
The announcement comes after the area secured £30 million worth of funding through the government’s Plugged-in-Places scheme.
Last month, transport secretary Lord Adonis revealed plans to invest £3.5 million in biogas, which could see car hire customers and other drivers using renewable energy to power their vehicles.
