Head to the River Clyde with car hire at Glasgow Airport

People taking advantage of car hire at Glasgow Airport might like to drive into the city itself, after it was named one of the ten greatest comeback destinations by Lonely Planet.

The travel guide noted Glasgow has bounced back from its dark past by reinventing itself and winning accolades such as the European City of Culture.

"Championing industrial heritage became integral to new-look Glasgow," it observed.

The publication suggested people head to the River Clyde, which has become the city's "focal point", where museums have replaced what were once derelict docklands and visitors can enjoy a trip along the water on the Waverley, the world's last ocean-going paddle steamer.

"Ambling today through a centre of astounding architecture and cool cafe-bars, it's hard to imagine the bad times ever existed," it added.

Glasgow Airport is located close to the city centre and it should take car hire users some 15 minutes to drive, if they select the M8 and exit onto the A198.
