Holidaymakers travelling to Scotland for their next family getaway might want to visit Ayrshire to take in the West Kilbride Scarecrow Festival.

The event takes place between July 31st and August 7th and sees locals create a host of scarecrows to display around the West Kilbride area.

Visitors will be able to take in these scarecrows and enjoy themselves at ceilidhs and other parties while sampling the local food and drink.

Children will be well-catered for, with scarecrow trails and other activities aimed at young ones available throughout the duration of the festival.

The event culminates in a huge scarecrow parade that draws crowds of spectators – particularly kids.

If you’re using car hire at Prestwick Airport to get to West Kilbride, the journey should take around half an hour via the A78 heading north.

The town is situated four miles north-west of Ardrossan and offers great views over the Firth of Clyde, as well as being home to a good golf course, according to Visit Scotland.
