Car hire at Gatwick Airport could take people into the countryside to enjoy a National Trust walk.

The Daily Telegraph's route of the week takes visitors around Bateman's, the home of writer Rudyard Kipling, to see the landscapes that influenced many of his poems.

Warden Kevan Gibbons told the news provider the walk is truly unique due to its "combination of pastures, meadows, ancient woodlands and ponds".

Individuals will be following in the steps of Anglo-Saxon drovers as they stroll along the lanes through the agricultural setting of the High Weald, he continued.

"The autumn colours are fantastic at the moment", Mr Gibbons said, adding there will be plenty of oaks, hornbeam, ash and field maple looking their best over the coming weeks.

He recommended people bring a pair of wellies with them and be prepared for slightly hilly terrain.

Car hire users should be able to reach the area in around an hour by driving along the A22.
