Edinburgh car hire customers to benefit from lower petrol costs?
Holidaymakers choosing car hire from Edinburgh airport could benefit from lower fuel prices if the Scottish National Party (SNP) is successful in the upcoming general election.
The organisation has pledged that its MPs will lobby for lower duty, as figures have shown this has increased by 45 per cent since 1997.
Deputy leader Nicola Sturgeon argued that political parties in London have little understanding of issues in Scotland and promised the SNP will prevent further increases in petrol.
"Cutting fuel duty when oil prices go up is essential for all," she said. "It is outrageous that duty has been allowed to increase by 45 per cent at the same time as oil prices going up."
The party’s Kenny MacAskill, meanwhile, observed that car hire customers and other drivers in Edinburgh are paying more than £1.22 a litre for petrol.
Earlier this month, the Automobile Association observed that the cost of filling a tank had reached "unsustainable" levels.
