People using car hire at Gatwick Airport next month will have the opportunity to find out about Christmas celebrations in Victorian times at an event in Chiddingstone Castle in Kent.

The family activity day is being held on November 5th and will allow visitors to discover how festive traditions differed between rich and poor households, as well as join in with Victorian games.

After all, it was the Victorians who contributed to making the Christmas card popular by introducing the penny stamp and Prince Albert helped start the tradition of the Christmas tree.

Children are sure to enjoy listening to yuletide stories, getting involved in arts and crafts and writing their own letter to Santa.

Meanwhile, adults can relax in the castle's Victorian tearooms, which will be serving a selection of homemade cakes and cream teas.

Car hire users can expect to reach Chiddingstone in around 40 minutes if they drive north along the M23, before turning off onto the M25 at Junction 8.
