Car rental customers “more switched on” to alternative transport

Car rental users have a greater awareness of the steps they can take to reduce the cost of motoring, it has been suggested.

In a statement out this week, Europcarcar hire said that these drivers appear to be "more switched on to the alternative transport options", as indicated by recent research showing the people most likely to have saved money in this area are those who have rented vehicles in the past.

The comments were made ahead of the Pre-Budget Report, which the company anticipates will outline the end of the car scrappage scheme and a 2.5 percentage-point increase to VAT – two factors that will raise the cost of buying an automobile.

Europcar – which in October launched a mobile booking service to make it easier to hire cars – claimed to possess a number of case studies on individuals who now no longer own their own vehicle, but instead turn to rental for certain journeys.
