Car hire to prove popular this bank holiday weekend?

There will be more motorists on the roads than usual this weekend thanks to next week’s bank holiday, according to esure.

The insurer says that 42 per cent of all Britons will take to the roads from Friday afternoon – some of whom could be using car hire services.

It also reveals that UK drivers tend to be more patient with traffic levels during public holidays, with the average motorist keeping calm for two hours and 12 minutes.

One-fifth of drivers will travel at night to avoid delays this weekend, while 48 per cent are set to stick to minor roads.

"Drivers should be sure to explore all their options during the bank holiday weekend when travelling and seek alternative routes to keep both their patience and the holiday spirit in place," remarked Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure.

The Institute of Advanced Motorists recently urged motorists to take care when using country roads over the long weekend, stating that such routes tend to see more serious accidents than those on major roads.
