Car hire the best option for fliers?
Car hire may be a better alternative to using public transport when looking to go to the airport after a report highlighted the inadequacies of some services.
As 25 to 30 per cent of British households do not have a car, the provisions for getting to and from holiday destinations are not always of a high quality.
The Railfuture report revealed that there is "no coherent policy on connecting the UK’s airports to other public transport and especially rail, either on the part of government, the British Airports Authority or the train operating companies".
It also found that two airports studied – Inverness and Bournemouth – did not have any provisions for getting public transport to them.
The research singled out London Heathrow as a facility that was underprepared for the amount of people it accommodated, noting that it is surprising that more of an effort had not been made to link it with Great Western Main Line.
