Car hire customers to drive EVs?

Car hire customers in the UK may soon be leasing electric vehicles (EVs), after it was announced that Nissan are to manufacture their new environmentally-friendly automobile in Sunderland.

The Leaf, as it is known, will have a range of 100 miles in everyday conditions and its production in Britain represents great news for the industry, according to Kate Hudson, press officer for the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

She added: "It is very positive in the number of jobs it will maintain across the supply chain. There is definitely a drive to increase that appeal."

Plans are already being considered to install a giant electrical hub in London, she remarked, a move which could see the country become one of the biggest markets for EVs.

A tax incentive will be just one of the proposals that is being considered to ensure that they are more affordable, Ms Hudson stated.
