Be illuminated by car hire at Manchester Airport

Many reasons exist to use car hire at Manchester Airport to visit York, but the historic city is bathed in modern lights when the Illuminating York festival takes place this autumn.

Held from October 27th to 30th, the event involves the projection of multicoloured light artworks onto major buildings, with York Minster, St Mary's Abbey and the York Museum the subject of such projections in the past.

A visit to the city could combine a chance to enjoy these light shows after dark with seeing the many historical treasures of the past by day.

In addition to the Minster there are the Roman city walls, river boat trips and a visit to the Jorvik Viking centre.

Getting to York from Manchester Airport is simple, with the journey starting by taking the M56 and A5103 towards central Manchester to join the M60.

This leads on to the M62 eastbound towards Leeds, joining the M1 at Junction 29 and then A1(M) towards York.

Leave the motorway at Junction 45 and take the A64 to York, with the left exit for Copmanthorpe and Bishopthorpe taking you onto the A1036 into the city centre.
